What are your fitness goals for next week?

In many areas of my life, I like to set small achievable goals that I can reach. I used to be a procrastinator during college. I put things off until the last minute. Now, many years later, I like to get things done early. I don't really like rushing and finishing at the last minute. Even if I can just get started for 5-10 minutes to get motiviated or organized is better than nothing. I've also adapted this change to my fitness area of life. Instead of saying, I want to lose 40 pounds or get to a size 2, I like to work on small achievable goals. One month I challenged myself to adding 100 kettlebell swings to my workout every day. It may be a small thing each day, but at the end you have added up lots of swings.

Do you have a favorite workout that you love?

Do you have a favorite little gem that you love to do? Do you have a workout that has no dread factor? For me, it's KenpoX. I just think it is a wonderful workout.

  • It's a nice pace for me, especially for morning workouts at 5 am.

There's punching and kicking, my favorite exercises!

The crew just seems to be having fun!

I'm always interested to hear what motivates people to work out each day.

How Often Do you Exercise?

I try to squeeze in 6 1/2 hour-45 minute morning workouts each week. I usually set out a couple DVD's for the next morning to choose from. I like to feel good when working out. I don't want to dread the workout. I like to include at least one day as yoga/stretch. I try to also fill one day with kettlebells. The other days, I usually rotate strength training and cardio. Strength training I love, cardio not so much. I try to fill my cardio days with Kenpo X, Turbo Fire, or Turbo Jam. I love the boxing/kicking type moves. They make my morning cardio enjoyable. Enjoying exercise for me in the key to continuing to do this every morning for my health.

What do you do when you are feeling under the weather?

Do you still exercise when you are not feeling your best? To me, it all depends on how less than a 100% I feel. If I have a fever or stomach issues, I first replace the day with my rest day. If I just feel like I won't be able to get thru the workout I've scheduled (dread putting in the dvd), I'll thrown in Hip Hop Abs, an easy yoga/stretch dvd, or a Tony Horton workout with just arms (work out with lighter weights). If I don't feel into it after 10 minutes, I usually just give up. There is always another day. I don't sweat it. Sometimes I do feel guilty like I should have done better, but I know in the grand scheme of things, it is better to listen to my body. The Beachbody DVD's I reach for when I want to do a lighter workout

  • Tony Horton X Stretch

  • Yoga Booty Ballet Hip Hop & Abs

  • p90X One on One Volume 3 - Stretch and Recovery

  • Hip Hop Abs - Hips, Buns, and Thighs
